You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your healthcare may cost.
Under the federal No Surprises Act, healthcare providers are generally required to provide patients who do not have health insurance, or who choose not to use health insurance to pay for their care, with an estimate of the expected charges for scheduled healthcare items and services.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
If you are uninsured or plan to pay for your care yourself without submitting a claim to a health insurance plan, you may request a Good Faith Estimate from Bliss Healthcare Solutions before receiving care.
A Good Faith Estimate provides an itemized estimate of the charges that are reasonably expected for the healthcare items or services being scheduled or requested.
You do not need to use the words “Good Faith Estimate” when requesting information about the expected cost of your care.
When You Will Receive Your Estimate
If you schedule a healthcare service at least 3 business days in advance, you are generally entitled to receive a written Good Faith Estimate before your appointment.
- If you schedule care 3 to 9 business days in advance, the estimate will generally be provided within 1 business day after scheduling.
- If you schedule care 10 or more business days in advance, the estimate will generally be provided within 3 business days after scheduling.
- If you request an estimate before scheduling care, the estimate will generally be provided within 3 business days after your request.
What Your Estimate May Include
Your Good Faith Estimate will include the charges that Bliss Healthcare Solutions reasonably expects for the healthcare items or services identified at the time the estimate is prepared.
Depending on your care, additional items or services may be recommended that were not known or anticipated when the estimate was created. Services furnished by another healthcare provider, laboratory, pharmacy, imaging facility, or other third party may also be billed separately and may require a separate Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility.
Additional Costs
Unless specifically included in your Good Faith Estimate, fees charged by Bliss Healthcare Solutions do not include the cost of prescription medications, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, supplements, pharmacy charges, or services provided by outside healthcare professionals, laboratories, facilities, or other third parties.
You may request information about anticipated Bliss Healthcare Solutions charges before scheduling or receiving care.
Your Estimate Is Not a Contract
A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate of expected charges based on the information available when it is prepared. It is not a contract and does not require you to obtain the items or services described in the estimate.
If Your Bill Is Higher Than Your Estimate
Keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate and compare it with any bills you receive.
If the amount billed by a provider or facility is at least $400 more than the amount shown on the Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
You generally must begin the federal dispute process within 120 calendar days of receiving the initial bill.
You may also contact the provider or facility directly to discuss the difference between the estimated and billed charges, ask whether the bill can be updated, or discuss available payment options.
